Poetry on belly dancing

Desert Dance

The rhythm of the drum beats in my ears.
I spin, I sway, I dance within the drum
As its vibration shakes away my fears.

The pulse, it pulls me to itself, and from
Its life – or mine, or ours – I now do find
A promise of the glory yet to come.

Its pulse, inside the reaches of my mind,
It speaks of desert sand and midnight sky
As I reflect its poetry in kind.

No worries now intrude my mind, and my
Ecstatic feet trace shadows in the light
Where flames and flickers of firelight lie.

We share the native rhythm of the night
While music blesses in this primal rite.
