Belly dance hafla in Angmering on 9th September, 2011
My first impression after attending my first hafla many years ago was one of awe and amazement. Everyone
was so friendly and have no qualms about sharing their dances and dance techniques.
A hafla is a middle eastern dance party where teachers, students and people who want to know more about
belly dancing get together for an evening of dancing and socialising. It is an evening where participants can
perform, learn new dance techniques from other dancers or simply enjoying the evening. Hafla creates a sense
of community, enhanced by the shared experiences of people congregating together.
Haflas can be held at someone’s home, village hall or even a private room in a restaurant. Size does not
matter when organising a hafla. Get a few belly dancing friends, put on Middle Eastern music and food and you can
have a hafla in your own living room.
